Reading your meter — any UK smart meter
Whoever supplies you, we can read your smart meter. On Octopus it’s instant — just a
read-only API key. For every other supplier we read it through the free Bright app (British Gas, EDF,
OVO, E.ON, ScottishPower, Utility Warehouse and the rest). Read-only always — we can see your usage,
never change anything.

A note while we’re small. Setting up your meter takes a few minutes today, and the first readings
take a day or two to arrive — that’s the national smart-meter network, not us. We’re working
hard to make it one tap. Connecting each home has a real cost to us, so the more people who join, the slicker we
