Terms of service
Short version: we show you what your energy is doing and check your bills. Our
figures are careful estimates, not a bill. Your meter data is yours — you can disconnect or delete
it whenever you like. We take no commission from anyone, ever.
Version 2026-08-11. These terms are between you and Joulely
(“we”, “us”). They work alongside our privacy notice,
which explains what we hold and why.
Joulely is a trading name of Savernake Technology Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 09196590. Registered office: C/O Coles Accounting, Office 6, Unit 1a, Solopark Trading Estate, Station Road, Pampisford, Cambridge CB22 3HB.
- What the service is. Joulely brings your home energy into one place: your usage, your
bills checked against real tariff data, and where your money is going. Some of it is free and needs no
account at all. Connecting a smart meter and the ongoing whole-home tracking are paid.
- What our numbers are — and are not. Every figure we show is a careful estimate
built from your readings and published tariff data. It is not a bill, not a formal quotation, and
not financial advice. Your supplier’s bill is the authoritative one. If we disagree with it, that is
a useful signal worth chasing — but chase it with your supplier. We publish our tariff sources,
and still: check anything before you act on it.
- No commission, ever. We take £0 from any supplier, on any switch, for any
ranking. Nobody pays to appear or to appear higher.
- Your meter connection. If you connect a smart meter, you are giving read-only
access to your own consumption data, brokered by our regulated meter-data provider from the national
DCC network. We can see your usage; we can never change anything with your supplier or your meter.
Your consent lasts 18 months and you can withdraw it at any time from your account, without
giving a reason.
- Paying, and stopping. The paid plan costs from £1.50 a month while your meter is connected (£1.50 for one meter, £2.50 for gas and electricity), billed
monthly in advance while your meter is connected. You can cancel any time and you keep everything until the end of the month you have
already paid for — we do not bill you again after that. We do not refund part-months: it keeps
the whole thing simple and the amounts small. When you disconnect we stop charging you and we release
your meter, so nothing accrues quietly in the background.
- Leaving, and what happens to your history. Disconnecting your meter keeps the
readings we already hold, so your history is still there if you reconnect later. If you want it gone
instead, delete your account — that hard-deletes your record and
your meter connection immediately, with no retained copy.
- Fair use. Please do not scrape the site, resell our data, attack or overload it, or use
it to break the law. If you use our API, the published rate limits apply. We may suspend an account
doing any of that — and we will tell you why.
- When things go wrong. We build this carefully and we test it, but we cannot promise the
service is never unavailable or never wrong. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal
injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
Beyond that, and because much of what we do is free or costs a few pounds a month, our liability to you
is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the problem. We are not liable
for a decision you took on one of our estimates without checking it — which is why we say, in the
second bullet, to check it.
- Changes to these terms. If we change anything that materially affects you, we will tell
you and, where it concerns your meter data, ask you again rather than assume. The version and date at
the top of this page is the one you agreed to; we keep a record of which version that was.
- Business and partner use is a different agreement. This page covers using Joulely
for your own home. If you are an energy supplier, a council, a charity or any other organisation
using Joulely for people you serve, your use is governed by a separate written agreement —
our master services agreement, plus an Article 28 data processing agreement
where we handle your customers’ data. Neither is replaced or limited by these terms. The
trust pack sets out what they cover, alongside our
security statement and service levels. Using the
bill-engine API is covered by the API terms.
- The legal bit. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts
of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not take away any rights you
have under the law of the country you live in.
Written to be read. If anything here is unclear, or seems unfair, tell us — the
wording gets fixed, it does not get relied on.
